Sun Heated Water for your Pool
Solar pool heating systems will save you lots of money, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Pool heating is a very good solar application. The systems are simple and relatively inexpensive. Pool systems usually use simple, low cost, unglazed plastic collectors. The pool itself is the thermal storage for the system, and the pump you already use for filtering pool water will also circulate water through the solar collectors.
Solar Pool Heating provides you and your family with a cost-effective and an environmentally conscious way to keep your pool warm and inviting even during the winter months. Contrary to common belief, there is enough solar energy, even in the cold Northeast, to warm your pool to summer levels.
Heating your pool with solar energy from the sun is just another fuel with which to heat your pool. The final results are just the same as far as the warmth of the water but the savings in dollars is the big difference. Those sunny days when you can relax at poolside but you're not able to get in the water because it's too cold are over. Solar energy can heat your pool to a temperature comfortable for swimming even on cold winter days as long as the sun is out and shining.
The pump that was uaed to circulate the water to and from the heater will now circulate that water from the collectors heated by the sun back to the pool. These collectors do not necessarily have to face south, as long as they are in the sun a good portion of the day. The reason for heating a pool is to be able to get as much use as possible from your pool, in fact all year round if feasible.
The equipment used to heat your pool is not the expensive glass covered and insulated housing type used on household water heaters. The lower cost glazed collectors can deliver heat much more effectively to your pool than those expensive collectors.
